This blog is full of Sherry's infinite wisdom. She's my business coach, and the only one I'd ever recommend or use. I admire the sacrifice she's making with caring for her dad, and wish I had such a good attitude about my similar challenges. And I couldn't agree more, outsource what you don't do well or don't have the time or interest to do yourself.

thanks delila. this was super pertinent to life with my two little boys. it's a wild ride trying to install love, respect and understand rather than harsh rules because of our own discomfort and stringent opinions. many of my good friends have girls - it's been crazy the difference even at the toddler age. i am trying to keep breathing and work with my 3 year old on this (the wide wide world of guns and such) versus against him. your post was super helpful. i will most certainly revisit Raising Cain and any other books you can recommend would be wonderful. best to you, L.

I should add a p.s. as a girl I had fun and played with toy guns as did our children as did many extended family members & friends..not a violent one in the bunch. Our family had a rule of not aiming at people even in play. Yes we have hunted, but with the spirit of thank you for this meat, not killing for thrill or "fun" even animals were repected. Kids need to be taught great values and to respect life, I feel more harm is caused by the double standard society as a whole is putting out for kids.If it is ok for society to terminate human life, for our "reasons",that there are no consequences for wrong use of any kind of power, while we tell them don't "play" with guns why are we surprised when youth become violent, guns are not the issue..our values are.

This is a keeper for my files. I want to make sure I have it on hand for the next time I feel like I am carrying a load.

From time to time we wonder if we are not in this alone. You are not and now I feel like I am not. Thank you for the beautifully penned reminder.

What a powerful message. As I read your words I felt the resonance of familiarity coursing through me. In the last year I have had to really grapple with just how damaging stress can be and how when you abandon the care of yourself, truly things unravel. Breathe. Really. That is what I have found to be most re-balancing and to sincerely pause to feel the life in you, filling you up, and grounding you. It is a hard hard lesson to accept when things are not as you imagined or would like them to be but to look for the wisdom that arises in those times can be ultimately nourishing. Thank you for sharing your truth, Delila.

Well, I can't do it today.... but I'd love to sleep til 10am, watch the View, stay in my jammies, drink too much coffee, and make (carb loaded) pancakes with lots of butter and syrup.

Glad to have you back, Delila. Thank you for this powerful post.
